The Street Department is responsible for the maintenance of over 300 lane miles of city roadways, many miles of berms and right-of-ways, the storm drainage network, piping, and open channels. The department maintains the City's traffic signal network and radio repair.
TheStreet Department offers a support base for other city departments: Building Maintenance, Urban Forestry, Engineering, Parks and Recreation and Cemetery. The department also assists both the Police and Fire Departments with traffic control, hazardous materials spills and trench rescue. Our community events are a huge success with the Street Department's support of the Stow Fourth of July Parade, Memorial Day Services and the Community Showcase.
When Stow was originally a Township, the Street Department consisted of two full-time employees and one part-time employee. Today, the City of Stow Street Department has grown to a staff of over 20 people. Due to changes in technology and equipment, the Street Department is nothing like it was over 40 years ago. Employees are constantly undergoing the necessary training to stay abreast of the latest changes in technology, operating techniques, safety procedures and other related issues.
